Update per the Holland Township Committee 5/13/2010:

The Fitness Center at Riegel Ridge Community Center suffered catastrophic damage following the failure of the new gutter and snow guard system installed approximately three years ago.  With the second large snow storm on February 11^th, followed by several severe periods of rain, the result was multiple flooding and repeat water damage.  Evidence of mold became apparent and remediation efforts were taken, however damage to the walls and flooring required that they be removed.  Flooding continues with each large rain event preventing the re-opening of the Center.

The Township expects final bid specifications for the proper reinstallation of the gutter and snow guard system by May 14th, 2010.  Quotes for the project are expected within a two week period with an additional two weeks required after a contract is awarded to begin work.

Once the gutter and snow guard system is in place, the second phase of remediation will be sent out for quotes.  A drainage system, requiring extensive excavation around the foundation of the Community Center, will be installed to prevent groundwater infiltration into the building.

Once these projects are substantially completed renovation of the Fitness center itself can take place.  We will be working with our professionals to provide a safe and hospitable center where residents and members can once again utilize the facility for their physical fitness needs.

Our professionals have advised us that a realistic re-opening date is Labor Day.  This will ensure that the roofing and drainage projects are completed and the grounds restored to ensure safe entry into the building.  Circumstances beyond our control caused these problems and we appreciate your patience while we rectify them.
